Im currently a university student at plymouth, but i'm renting a flat instead of going into student accomodation as i have animals, i have lived here since september 1st 2010 and avent had a tenancy agreement since november 2010, i have repeatedly contacted the landlord about getting it renewed they just tell me it'll be done but it never is. The property itself - compromised of 3 flats the 1st flat on the ground floor has been classed as inhabitable due to its bad condition, the second flat, rented by my neighbour, has mould, damp and leaky windows, the third flat rented by me, has mould, damp leaky windows my walls leak when it rains to the point where the floor boards in some places are starting to curve and move when i walk on the landing, there is a rear courtyard which doesnt drain, im not suppose to have access to it as its for the 1st flat but i have to go down often to unblock the drains, this of course doesnt help the damp, im also asthmatic and im having to go to have a test on my airways and possibly be put on steroids as its getting to my chest. i have tried treating the mould but a few months later it just comes back again. im slowly decending into madness. is there anything i can personally do to solve any of the problems as the landlord hasnt actually been here since the day i moved in.

Hi there from what you say i think you should get in touch with the cab office
He is breaking the law on so many counts. you should withhold rent put it in the bank for safe keeping
when he has sorted all the problems out then he can have is back rent,
He cant take you to court has he has no legal tenancy agreement. As for the mould and damp
with you been asthmatic it is very dangerous as the mould spores can get on your lungs read up on
Google about the different spores i believe the white ones are the worst. The environmental Health
officer will help you at your local council office. he can enforce the works to be completed. My wife and i
had the same problems, and she has not got her health back yet and that was a year ago so please seek help
straight away for yours and your animals sake, as they can be affected as well my email is tagmoide@hotmail.co.uk
please let me know how you get on good luck and take care. Best Regards Declan.
