How to make a Housing Benefit Claim
In order to claim housing benefit you will need to complete a Housing Benefit application form HCTB1.
Once you have completed the housing benefit application form this will be assessed by a housing benefit officer to see whether you are eligible to claim housing benefit, and to calculate the amount of housing benefit you will be able to claim.
Ways to make a Housing Benefit Claim
There are several ways you can file an application for housing benefit.
Claiming Housing Benefit at your local neighbourhood/housing office.
You can collect a housing benefit application form from your local neighbourhood office. If you are unsure of how to fill the housing benefit form you can get someone from the neighbourhood office to help you. Don't forget to take with you all the paperwork you have received from the Department of Works and Pensions (DWP) and an original tenancy agreement if you are already renting.
Claiming Housing Benefit over the telephone
You are able to make a claim for housing benefit by calling your local council’s housing department and answering a number of questions over the telephone. If you want to do it this way make sure that you have all your paperwork you have received from the Department of Works and Pensions (DWP).
